Preparing the Next Generation: Where Schools, Employers and Opportunity Meet

,
Next Generation Students

For many young people, one question becomes increasingly important as graduation approaches: What comes next?

College may be the answer for some. Others may choose technical training, an apprenticeship or direct entry into the workforce. Whatever the path, students benefit from understanding career options before they have to make the decision alone.

What Is Next Generation?

Launched in 2024, Cincinnati Works’ Next Generation initiative connects students with career pathways, coaching and employer opportunities. The goal is to make the transition from classroom to career more intentional.

Cincinnati Works works with schools across six districts in Hamilton and Campbell counties: Cincinnati Public Schools, North College Hill, Winton Woods, Princeton, Cincinnati College Preparatory Academy and Newport Independent Schools.

Why Schools and Employers Need Each Other

Schools understand their students. Employers understand the skills and behaviors needed in the workplace. Cincinnati Works helps connect the two.

Industry collaboration gives students earlier exposure to careers while helping employers build relationships with the region’s future talent pipeline.

Career Readiness Starts Before the First Job

Students need practical skills as well as career awareness. Resume development, interviewing, digital literacy, communication, financial wellness and workplace expectations can make the first professional experience less intimidating and more successful.

The goal is bigger than helping a student land a first job. It is helping that student understand where the first opportunity can lead.

The Next Generation Is Cincinnati’s Next Workforce

Today’s students will become tomorrow’s employees, skilled professionals, entrepreneurs and leaders. Stronger connections among schools, employers and workforce organizations can help them enter that future with greater confidence and direction.
